The KRG Cabinet held a meeting chaired by KRG Prime Minister Nechirvan Barzani and KRG Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Thursday in which it decided to welcome Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s initiative calling for dialogue on outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil in accordance with the Constitution within the principles of partnership and consensus.
The UN released a statement Thursday expressing its “concern” over reports of “violence” in Kirkuk, calling on the Iraqi government to take all measures to stop any “violations,” to ensure protection for all civilians, and to bring the perpetrators of violence to justice.
An Interior Ministry inspector in Kirkuk Province, Col. Arkani al-Masari, announced on Thursday that 4,000 families returned to Kirkuk from Sulaimaniyah and Erbil, adding that most of the families said that the main reason they fled was the media. Masari appealed to families to return quickly because the security situation was stable.
A spokesperson for the Oil Ministry, Assem Jihad, announced on Thursday the formation of a “high-level” ministerial committee to follow up on and evaluate the oil activity in Kirkuk Province and identify the province’s needs in order to expedite the submission of recommendations and proposals necessary to promote the oil industry situation in the province.
